Thekchen Chöling, Dharamsala, HP, India - Following the passing away of Czech politician, diplomat and statesman Karel Schwarzenberg, His Holiness the Dalai Lama has written to his widow, Mrs. Therese Schwarzenberg, to offer his condolences and prayers.
“He lived a full and meaningful life in the service of your country,” he wrote. “I had honour of knowing him from the time he was chancellor in President Vaclav Havel’s office and later as the Foreign Minister of the Czech Republic. Indeed, during one of my visits to Prague, while he was Foreign Minister, I had the privilege of accompanying him on his plane to Brussels. I appreciated his gesture.
“I counted him as a close ally and remain grateful for his steadfast friendship and support.”
