Bylakuppe, Karnataka, India, 30 August 2010 (PTI) - Spiritual leader the Dalai Lama will attend the closing ceremony of the first National General Meeting of Tibetans in Bylakuppe near Mysore on Tuesday.
The meeting, which began on August 26, is the first major function of Tibetans which is being organised outside Dharamsala.
The Dalai Lama will address the delegates who are representing Tibetans from across the world at the meeting.
On September 1, the representatives will offer a long-life prayer to the Dalai Lama, who will then preside over a debate on Buddhist philosophy at Sera Jey Monastery in Bylakuppee, a press release issued by Tibetan Government in exile at Dharamsala, said today.
The commemoration ceremony of the 50th anniversary of the founding of Tibetan democracy will be celebrated on September 2 at Sera Jey Monastery, it said.
The exiled Tibetan leader had declared democracy for Tibetans on September 2, 1960, and promulgated a constitution for a future Tibet, based on the principles of modern democracy.
Besides the spiritual leader, the occasion will have the presence of Chief Justice Commissioners, members of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, the Kashag (Council of Ministers), representatives of the four schools of Tibetan Buddhism and Bon, representatives of local Tibetan assemblies among others.
He will deliver a keynote address on 'Beyond Conflict to Reconciliation-The Challenge of the 21st Century' at the 33rd International Association for Religious Freedom (IARF) Congress at John Paul II Auditorium of Catholic Renewal Centre in Kochi, Kerala.
The Dalai Lama will be felicitated by the representatives of various religious faiths, local MLAs and the Mayor of Kochi.
