Phayul photo Dharamsala, HP, India, 13 October 2009 (phayul.com) - Exiled Tibetan leader his Holiness the Dalai Lama today arrived in Dharamsala, his exile hometown in Northern India, after successfully concluding his visit to the United States and Canada. During the almost three-week tour, the 74-year old Nobel Peace Laureate gave series of Buddhist teachings and public talks, and took part in dialogues on peace and education. In both the countries, His Holiness the Dalai Lama is a popular public icon and enjoys a huge public following. During his tour, the Tibetan leader also received the International Freedom Award from the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis, and paid his tribute to Martin Luther King Jr by praying at the site where King was assassinated 40 years ago. Earlier this morning, as His Holiness' convoy drove from the Gagal airport to his residential complex hundreds of Tibetans and well-wishers lined up the road holding the traditional Tibetan greeting scarves (Khata), burning incense and flowers to welcome him. His Holiness will deliver three - day teachings on lojong dhondunma and Tsongkhapa's The Three Principal Paths (lamtso namsum) requested by Taiwanese devotees at the Tsuglakhang Temple from 15 October. His Holiness will confer the Avalokiteshvera Initiation (chenresig ki wang) on the first day.
