Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India, 17 December 2009 (phayul.com) - His Holiness the Dalai Lama who left here early this morning for Lucknow said peace and stability between the two Asian giants China and India is necessary for the resolution of the Tibetan issue, according to reports.
His Holiness was speaking at the Sanjay Ghandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Science in the capital of Uttar Pradesh state on the occasion of the 58th annual conference of the Neurological Society of India. The Tibetan leader talked on “Brain science and ancient Indian Buddhist thought”.
Around 700 neuroscientists, doctors, and researchers from various countries listened to the Tibetan leader who has lived in India for 50 years. Describing India as “guru” and Tibet as its “chela”, His Holiness appreciated the ancient Indian thought of “Ahimsa” saying that he was only a messenger trying to convey the message of peace and religious harmony that he learned from Indian masters.
His Holiness spoke about "Darwinian reality" saying he had read about Darwin due to his interest in the subject. His Holiness said subjects like psychology and neuroscience are now being introduced in Tibetan Buddhist monasteries.
His Holiness said that science has not destroyed anything but humans did by putting it to wrong use. "Lord Buddha was himself a scientist in the way he taught about the way of bringing the mind under control for leading a healthy life. Mind is formless and beyond matters, yet it controls everything," he added.
His Holiness later left for Hyderabad where he will meet tomorrow with the local Tibetan community of sweater sellers and students. His Holiness will also be giving Buddhist teachings during his three day tour of Andhra Pradesh.
