Hyderabad, 2 January 2006 (www.tibet.net) - His Holiness the Dalai Lama arrived in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, this morning and was received by over 1000 people comprising of the state tourism minister, many other dignitaries and Tibetan sweater sellers at the airport amid tight security. This afternoon, His Holiness the Dalai Lama will inaugurate the 16th enclosure named Holy Relic Gallery at the Andhra Pradesh State Museum. The relic is a statue of the Buddha and was unearthed at Bavikonda in Visakhapatnam district. Andhra Pradesh govenor Susheel Kumar will receive His Holiness the Dalai Lama at the museum. His Holiness will also address the inaugural ceremony, which will be attended by Susheel Kumar, state governor, Dr. Y S Rajasekhara, chief minister, minister of tourism, director of archaeology and museums and others. His Holiness the Dalai Lama will also release the holy relic gallery book and release thangkas and serigraph on the Kalachakra mandala. After the inaugural ceremony, His Holiness the Dalai Lama will consecrate the Lord Buddha Statue, which stands in the middle of Hussainsagar Lake in Hyderabad. The state government and the people of Hyderabad were delighted to have His Holiness the Dalai Lama as their first guest for the year 2006. Tomorrow His Holiness the Dalai Lama will leave for Nagarjunasagar, which is considered as a holy Buddhist site in Andhra Pradesh. |
