| Tokyo, Japan, 30 October 2006 (Tsering Tsomo) - His Holiness the Dalai Lama arrived at Narita airport in Tokyo early this morning?to begin a two-week visit to Japan. His activities, beginning Tuesday, include a series of lectures and teachings, and a peace summit in Hiroshima with fellow Nobel peace laureates Archbishop Desmond Tutu of South Africa and Ms. Betty Williams of Northern Ireland.? The summit, to be held at the historic site of Hiroshima where the gruesome impacts of nuclear destruction was witnessed, is aimed at inculcating a spirit of inspiration for peace and compassion. The Dalai Lama will address a congregation of around 50 Japanese abbots of various Japanese Buddhist organisations at Shinagawa Prince Hotel in Tokyo on Tuesday. The Tibetan leader was received at the airport by officials from the Representative office of H.H. the Dalai Lama; Shouyu Yoshida, abbot of Daisyoin Temple, chief organiser of the visit and Mr. Shojiro Nomura, director of the Hiroashima-based Manjushri Mahayana Buddhist Association (MMBA) and representatives from Busshokai Buddhist Centre which was the chief sponsor of the Amravati Kalachakra teachings held in January 2006. It is the Dalai Lama?s 10th visit to Japan. |
