Thekchen Chöling, Dharamsala, HP, India - It was a bright morning today as His Holiness the Dalai Lama was greeted at the gate to his residence by Ven Thuksey Rinpoché and others. He then drove in a golf cart to the foot of the Tsuglagkhang, the Main Tibetan Temple. The aisle up the middle of the courtyard was lined by monks and nuns who greeted him. His Holiness was escorted by monks playing horns and carrying a ceremonial umbrella.

Thekchen Choling, Dharamshala, HP, India - His Holiness the Dalai Lama has expressed his sadness about the devastating earthquake that has struck Myanmar leading to the loss of so many precious lives while many others have been injured. “I offer my condolences to the families of those who have lost loved ones and pray for all those in Myanmar and neighbouring countries such as Thailand who have been affected by this tragedy,” he wrote.

Thekchen Chöling, Dharamsala, HP, India - This morning, as the mountains shone in the sun under a clear blue sky, monks and supporters of Nechung Monastery offered prayers for the Long Life of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The ceremony, presided over by Khochhen Rinpoché, the director of Mindrolling Monastery, took place in one of the halls in His Holiness’s Old Residence. The sound of cymbals, drums, long and short horns portended His Holiness’s arrival.

Thekchen Chöling, Dharamsala, HP, India - His Holiness the Dalai Lama has written today to Mark Carney to congratulate him on his election as leader of the Liberal Party of Canada and his appointment as Prime Minister of Canada. “As someone privileged to be an honorary Canadian citizen myself,” His Holiness wrote, “I am particularly proud that Canada enjoys a vibrant democracy.”
