His Holiness the Dalai Lama offers condolences to the family of Wangari Maathai

Dharamsala, HP, India, 27 September 2011 - Writing to the Green Belt Movement she founded in Kenya, His Holiness the Dalai Lama expressed his sadness at learning of the passing away of fellow Nobel Laureate, Wangari Maathai.

“She lived a full and meaningful life and will be respectfully remembered for her efforts to promote conservation, women’s rights and transparency in governance. She was determined to make our world a more peaceful, better place to live. I hope her valuable achievements will inspire other women to follow her example and take a more active role in society, “ His Holiness said in a letter dated 27th September 2011.
